Local fun runs, charity walks and fitness events coming up
Fresno residents have several group runs and walks scheduled through August that combine exercise with community support.
How we reported this
Several fun runs and charity walks are scheduled across Fresno in the next six weeks, with the first event set for July 15 at Woodward Park.
These events arrive during peak summer months when daytime temperatures often exceed 95 degrees and residents look for structured outdoor activities to stay active. Local wellness programs have expanded since 2024, when the Fresno County Department of Public Health reported that 42 percent of adults met recommended weekly exercise levels.
Events at Woodward Park and Tower District
The Central Valley Runners group will host its monthly 5K fun run on July 15 starting at 7 a.m. from the Woodward Park parking lot on East Audubon Drive. Registration opens at 6:15 a.m. and costs $18 for adults. On August 2 the Fresno YMCA will stage its annual charity walk along Shaw Avenue through the Tower District, beginning at the YMCA branch at 2633 East Shaw Avenue. Proceeds support youth fitness scholarships and the entry fee is $25, with an early-bird rate of $20 available until July 20.
Registration numbers and local trends
Last summer the same YMCA walk drew 850 participants, according to event records filed with the city parks department. The July 15 run expects similar turnout, with organizers capping entries at 1,000 to manage heat safety. Both events provide water stations every mile and encourage participants to start before 8 a.m. to avoid the hottest part of the day.
Residents can register online through the Fresno YMCA website or at the Woodward Park ranger station on East Audubon Drive. Anyone new to group exercise should check with a physician before signing up, especially given current heat advisories issued by the National Weather Service for the San Joaquin Valley.
