Fresno Arts Organizations Sustain the Local Scene Through Historic Venues and Events
Decades-old institutions and neighborhood spaces continue to support monthly gatherings, exhibitions and performances across Downtown and the Tower District.

Fresno's monthly ArtHop events occur on the first and third Thursdays, with the First Thursday edition in Downtown and the Tower District featuring art, music and vendors from 5 pm to 9 pm starting in May 2026.
These recurring gatherings reflect the work of long-standing local organizations that established venues and programs over many years. The Fresno Art Museum opened in 1949 and maintains a collection of more than 3,800 works that includes pieces by Diego Rivera, Ansel Adams and Pablo Picasso. The Tower District developed around the 1939 art deco Tower Theatre, which stages productions such as Hearts on Fire and The Tempest.
Foundations Laid by Established Institutions
The Fresno Art Museum serves as a central point for the city's visual arts holdings. Its collection and partnerships, including with Arte Américas, have supported ongoing exhibitions and collaborations. Arte Américas focuses on Latino arts and culture and hosts the summer Nights in the Plaza concert series at La Plazita while working with the Fresno Art Museum on joint projects.
Neighborhood Spaces Expand Access
The Tower District anchors much of the local activity through the Tower Theatre and the recently added Arts Annex Fresno gallery at 814 E. Olive Ave. Downtown Fresno's Mural District displays street art and organizes the annual Mural District ArtHop Block Party, an event open to all ages held at venues including Arte Américas and CMAC. These locations provide regular outlets for artists and visitors through the ArtHop schedule and related programming.
Attendance at ArtHop events and visits to the Fresno Art Museum and Tower Theatre demonstrate sustained community involvement built around these fixed venues and dates. The addition of the Arts Annex Fresno illustrates how existing districts continue to incorporate new artist-focused spaces within established neighborhoods.
